The contest started off on Saturday under La Jolla's usual fog. The foggy/cloudy conditions persisted throughout the day, but this by no means got in the way of the fun. The surf was in the chest-high range. The winds were calm. And the vibe was great. On Sunday, however, the atmosphere at the beach was ambivalent. For despite of the outstanding surf conditions, concern about the fires began to arise. Nevertheless, the contest on its own merit was a success and all participants appeared to have a lot of fun.
