Despite of the difficulties getting down there, the NSSA Southwest College Division kicked off this year with a contest at Black's. In the hope of compromising convenience for wave quality, the event was held down the Canyon and it saw no shortage of competitors. Unfortunately, the desired surf conditions did not quite come true, despite of the waist to chest-high surf.
