As we hit the midway point of the Gold Coast Conference 2008/09 season, all of the action for the fifth and sixth stop of the tour was at the C Street “Pipe” surf break across from the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Great surf prevailed for Saturday’s event #5 with 3-4 foot high performance rights and glassy conditions.
Sunday saw a decrease in swell but still some good waist to chest high waves on offer. Kokoro Tomatsuri dominated on day one with wins in the Explorer Men’s and Juniors. Tomatsuri also won the Men’s in Sunday’s competition which puts his victory total at six for the season.
Other multiple winners were Kanoa Igarashi who pulled off double triumphs in the Menehuenes and then took the Boy’s final in event #6. Igarashi is on quest to break the season win record of 21 and it looks as though he is unquestionably headed for the NSSA history books. Chris Keet captured double victories in the Masters which puts his win streak at five. Lakey Peterson banked three more victories with her season win total increasing to ten. JP Garcia snapped his third place curse in the Longboard division cruising to back-to-back wins. Trevor Thornton boosted his way to the top spot in the airshow competition.
