PLA's Charity Challenge at Huntington
Friday, 17 October 2008

pla.jpgOctober 17, 2008- The Professional Longboard Association announced today that they are organizing their first ever, “Amateur Charity Challenge”, to be held at the PLA Championships on November 14-16 at the Huntington Beach Pier.

“The Amateur Charity Challenge was created not only to help build and strengthen the Amateur division at PLA events, but also to help raise awareness for many of the charitable foundations that these Surf Clubs compete for.  We felt it was a great way to get the public more involved with each of these charities.” Andrew Pettersen, PLA Event Coordinator.

As Pettersen explains, “The “ Challenge” is simple, the contest will be judged and awarded individually just like any contest, but for a club to win the overall team prize and opportunity to donate event registration proceeds ( % TBD) to their charity, the PLA will total the TOP 2 scores in any age category throughout the weekend. This allows surfers both young and experienced to help their club win. It also gives each club an equal playing field, in that, if one clubs shows up with 10 people and another shows up with 20. The winning club will also be awarded a special plaque for their contest victory.”

The PLA feels if this “Charity Challenge” is a success at their last event, than they would proceed to continue the “Challenge” throughout the 2009 season.
