seaslugcollage1_560.jpgThe second stop of the Seaslug Surf Series was greeted with some fun 2-4ft surf and amazing conditions throughout the day. The action in the water was nonstop with incredible surfing going down in all the divisions. However, the mayhem certainly didn’t stop at the water’s edge and only got crazier once on the beach. Even Santa came down to launch off a few rockets and make sure he had everyone’s wish lists.

The Girls division went off this event with a nice turnout and some top notch female surfing. In the final it looked like the girls had an overdose of monster as they hit the water like a stampede of raging holiday shoppers. Holly Beck kicked the final off with some big turns putting her in the early lead. However, Frankie Harrera grabbed a random inside wave that lined up to the inside which she ripped to pieces giving her a solid mid range score. As the final wound down Frankie couldn’t find a solid backup leaving the door open for Holly and Jessica Rodgers to pick up some additional scores of their own. When the buzzer rang, it was Holly who came out victorious, walking away with a Riviera complete and more prizes then she knew what to do with. Jenny Quam, Filippa Ferrara, and Makayla Smith rounded out the rest of the final.

seaslugcollage2_560.jpgThe Groms were raging so hard throughout the day; it looked like they’d be dead by the time the final rolled around. However, once they hit the water it looked more intense then a corporate board meeting. Skylar Lawson looked hungry, and grabbed a big score right off the bat. For most of the heat, Skylar was in the driver seat but as time wore down, Kent Nishiya can on strong. He grabbed two huge scores which he followed up in the final minutes with a good backup. Conor Beatty made a late push but failed to overtake Kent. For his shredding, Kent walked away with a massive RC Buggy, Riviera complete and too many prizes to carry. Will Borzi, Hugh Brown, and Kyle Merrick rounded out the rest of the final.

seaslugevans_560.jpgseaslugfinalists_560.jpgThe Juniors were out of hand all day, going crazy on the beach and in the water. However once the final started it was a battle of pure fury. Austin Hall and Nick Fowler both got to work early and grabbed solid scores right off the bat. Kokoro Tamatsui waited patiently for the right waves and it paid off. For his contest prowess, Kokoro walked away with a Riviera complete and enough prizes to fill the port of Long Beach. Giovanni Mola, Dayton Silva and Marco Passaquindicci rounded out the rest of the final.

The Pros were obliterating the rippable waves, showing less mercy than a knight at the medieval times. It was an absolute blood bath out in the water with each competitor battling it out for valuable VQS points and the $500 cash first place prize. Yves Bright looked like a favorite with some impressive surfing that earned him $50 cash and pair of shades for the Electric Volt Thrower move of the event. However Blake Howard had dollar signs in his eyes and surfed with enough anger to scare off a grizzly bear. Unfortunately for Howard, Jesse Evans managed to find the right waves and surf them to near perfection for the win, $500 cash and enough prizes to fill a cruise ship. Wagner Deabreu, Josh Hoyer and Chad Eastman brought up the rest of the final.
