 The
World Longboard Tour is making its stop in San Onofre, San Clemente
November 5-9 and bringing with it today’s 48 best competitive
longboaders, including both “new school specialists and guardians of
the old school”.
Oxbow, a French-based surfwear company with a long history of
supporting the sport, is once again proud to be the financial arm
behind the event. This leg of the tour, according to an insider, is
being tailored not to the media, not to the public, but primarily to
the surfers on site. Under this competitive tent, power-surfers like
Bonga Perkins and Phil Rajzman, both world champions, will face the
three-time title winner Collin McPhillips, who will be surfing in his
own back yard.
A total of 9 “countries” will be represented, among which are the
typical four, US, Hawaii, Australia, and Brazil. Boasting a total of 11
surfers in the tour, Brazil leads in number of athletes, followed by
Australia and Hawaii with 8, and the US with 7. But also with a shot at
the title, despite of the numerical disadvantage, France has the
leading European Longboard champion and 2nd place in the WLT, Oxbow’s
own, Antoine Delpero. Now given the caliber of the surfers, it is
always unwise to count anyone of the contestants out of the winning
game, so make sure to stay tuned and, if you can, show up to find out
who takes the trophy.
