PRESS RELEASE

Catching Up with Cory Arrambide

Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) North America
2009 Weekly Regional Report

The determined goofy-footer found his feet just in time for the first ASP Grade-3 event of the season, capitalizing on the additional points available towards qualification for the ASP World Junior Championships.

“I was definitely nervous coming in to this contest,” Arrambide said. “My first two contests were kind of shockers, but since then, I’ve been training harder than ever and I’m stoked to get on a role. I haven’t really had a good heat yet, I’ve just kind of been skimming through.”

Arrambide, who won the Arnette Pro Junior last year, displayed his ability to excel in fast beachbreak conditions, opening up his Final campaign with an explosive forehand attack on a 56th street wall to stamp a seven-point-ride in the beginning of the heat. The young talent could not find the backup score needed to surpass his competitors, but still earned a keeper score for his season.

“The punchy beachbreak conditions have been fun,” Arrambide said. “I’ve got some good boards right now, so I’m stoked.”

Although Arrambide was happy to come away with the points available at the ASP Grade-3 event, he would have liked to claim back-to-back Arnette Pro Junior victories.

“I’m stoked to get the result in the Grade-3,” Arrambide said. “I’m happy with the result, but I wanted to come through with the win.”

The Ventura native has relocated to Newport Beach for the summertime and is out to capitalize on the summer surf on offer in Orange County in order to prepare for the flurry of upcoming events in the area.

“I’ve got a place down here in Newport for the summer,” Arrambide said. “It’s been great practice for this contest and it’s a good spot for the summer.”

Arrambide will continue his quest for a repeat ASP North America Pro Junior Series Title at the ASP Grade-4 Nike 6.0 Pier Pressure presented by Jack’s, running from June 28-29, 2009.
