Reintroducing the controversial realities of the Vietnam War (although this time through the lens of a youthful surf crowd), Between the Lines launches its premiere on June 26, 8pm at Hansens Surf Shop. 

Narrated by the voice behind Big Wednesday, produced by film maker Ty Ponder, co-produced by Surfer Magazine's Scott Bass, and surpervised by Vietnam veterans like Rick Thomas and Jerry Anderson, this film promises to be an insightful documentary and a well-deserved tribute to the numerous surfers who put their lives on the line in the name of their country. 

This upcoming screening will benefit the Rick Thomas Veterans Counseling Center in San Diego. There will be another benefit screening in Orange County on the evening of July 25 at the Huntington Beach Art Center. The beneficiary of this event will be the Long Beach Veterans Hospital Prosthetics and Orthotics Lab. 

Tickets for the Orange County screening are still available. You can find information on how to purchase tickets by going to the film’s website . Now the San Diego screening was sold out several weeks ago, so (if you want to make it to the Orange County event) make sure to hurry to buy your ticket. 

Synopsis. Between the Lines explores the Vietnam War through the prism of the surfing sub-culture. The film offers unique insight into the dramatic effect that the Vietnam War and draft had on young American men who rode waves.

  
Between the Lines explores the choice that most draft age surfers faced during the Vietnam War era: either go to war or evade the draft. It was one or the other. Between the Lines delves into the lives of two surfers who choose opposite paths. Pat Farley and Brant Page.

 
While following the lives of these two surfers the film chronicles the impact of the Vietnam War on the surfing lifestyle. From the peaceful shores of Hawaii to the canopy jungles of Vietnam, Between the Lines excavates the surfing cultures response to an extraordinary circumstance.
