In
yet another incident in a string of recent tragic events for surfers
and other ocean users, local surfer John M. Wagner, age 43 of Rancho
Penasquitos, died for unknown reasons while surfing with friends off
Santa Cruz Island, which is part of the Channel Islands National Park.
His friends said he had disappeared from sight as they were surfing. His
body was recovered with no signs of life about 20 miles south of
Ventura Harbor.
It was just last week that local triathlete David Martin of
Solana Beach was killed by a great white shark as he was training about
150 yards offshore with a group of other swimmers. That was followed by
a 24-year-old NorCal surfer being killed in a shark attack at
Tronocones Beach near Ixtapa on the Mexican Mainland.
They say that tragedies come in threes. Hopefully we've seen the last of these kinds of stories for a long time to come.
