Several
Shores regulars, from menehunes and kahunas to divas and dudes, went
down to the beach to participate in the club's new year's event. Next
to Dave's truck, Damon cooked his notorious breakfast of pancakes,
bacon, hash browns, and eggs — a manna from heaven for the hungry bunch
coming out of the water, cholesterol aside, of course. Lining up on the
sidewalk, a set of portable tables stocked a variety of sweet and salty
dishes, brought by the event's many participants. And to complement the
bonanza of food, some surfers circulated the crowd holding their coffee
mugs, while others held on to whatever drink was available.
With plenty of food and drink in hand, the event went on to last
roughly one hour, from 9:30am to 10:30am. Toward the end of the New
Year celebration, Stephanie Hoffman, a principal member of the La Jolla
Shores Surf Club, called out the attendees to pose for a group photo,
which featured well over ten Shores regulars and friends. Food
digested, chat out of the way, and picture taken, the crowd gradually
dispersed under the hope of one more year of good surf and community
spirit.
