PRESS RELEASE

Surfindian, New Hours, New Show, New Products

Greetings to everyone:

surfindianteepee.pngWell, it's time for my second installment of "Letter from Chris".  As I stated before, this letter will be my attempt to let you know what's going on at Surfindian.  Thanks for taking the time to sign up for our mailing list, and for reading this update.  I hope that this letter finds you happy and in good health.

There are so many new developments at Surfindian that I hardly know where to start.  First of all, I am proud to announce that we have increased our business hours to better suit your schedules.  We are now open from noon until 8 p.m. every day, seven days a week.  It's a big step for us-it kinda makes us feel like we're a "real" store now.  So, stop by on your lunch break, cruise in after school, or visit us after your afternoon nap-we'll be here with smiling faces.

Speaking of smiling faces, I am REALLY proud to announce that Masa Rogers has joined on here at Surfindian.  For those of you who don't know Masa already, you can often catch her surfing her yellow Frye Fishsimmons down at Tourmaline, or you may have seen her surfing with Skip in last Fall's edition of Surfer's Journal.  I feel really fortunate to have Masa helping out-she will generally be in the store during the day Monday through Friday.  Come by and welcome her to the Surfindian family.

On the show front, our next show will feature surfboards from Larry Mabile and artwork from Jon Steele.  Now put this on your calendar:  the show will open on May 30th, but the show "party" will be held on Saturday, June 13.  As many of you know, Larry is a renowned San Diego shaper who currently works under the Third World Exotic label.  Larry has shaped several boards specifically for this show-they are not to be missed.  You can see more on Larry at http://www.larrymabilesurfboards.com/

Jon Steele is a super-talented surf photographer who has been published in Surfer's Path, Surfer, Surfing, Transworld and the New York Times, among other prestigious publications.  I am really excited to have Jon on board for this next show, and I know that he is working hard to have some really special art available.  You can check out Jon's bio and preview his art at http://www.jonsteelephoto.com/

More great news:  Surfindian now has a blog.  The best way to check out the new blog is to go to our website, www.surfindian.com.   On our website home page, you will find a link to the blog.  Masa has been working hard on the blog to feature updates on the store, and to include some great pics.  Masa has also informed me that I WILL be contributing to the blog, so check in often as we'll be updating almost daily.

We have also created a new Facebook page, and we have revised our MySpace page.  They have a new look that I hope you will enjoy.  Finally, we are working on a total reconstruction of our website.  The new site will give you a better picture of what is going on at Surfindian, and most importantly, it will eventually feature an online store with online purchase availability.  For those of you who prefer to shop online, this should be a great new development.

Here's a brief overview of what's happening on the product front:

  • We continue to stock surf art-inspired men's and women's t-shirts from Andy Davis.
  • We now carry women's shorts from Ando and Friends, Andy's clothing line.
  • We have added t-shirts from Wellen, a small boutique line from Orange County.
  • We have t-shirts, hats, towels AND FINS (both centers and side bites) from Skip Frye.
  • We have added a full line of traditional fins from Captain Fin Company-way, way cool.
  • We will be adding our own line of tshirts and hats in the very near future-more to come.
  • We have added complete skateboards from Gremmie-totally old skool.
  • We have added many new titles to our surf book and surf dvd collections.
  • We have added a new art print "bar" where you can choose prints from a variety of great surf artists.
  • We even have Sex Wax surf wax...

OK, that's about it for now.  Thanks so much for taking the time to read this letter.  As I said above, please check the website and blog for more information-the blog will be updated frequently to keep you up to speed with what's going on at Surfindian.

Oh yeah, one more thing:  we have a new logo that I'm especially proud of.  It features two old school longboards that come together to form a teepee.  I've seen teepees survive 70 mph thunderstorm winds with no damage-they are really a timeless design and they provide a safe and warm place to gather.  I think that pretty much reflects where I want to take Surfindian.

Thanks again for everything, and until next time...happy waves.

Chris
