On
Saturday, March 15, 2008, the Swamis Surfing Association (SSA) will be
holding a White Elephant Sale from 8am to 1pm at the San Diego Surfing
Academy Surf Camp, located north of the South Carlsbad State Beach
Campgrounds.
SSA members seek to raise money to help the club "run events like the
annual San Diego Blind Center surfing outing with the Encinitas Lions
Club, [the] club contest in association with California State Parks,
and [the] assorted beach clean ups throughout the year," says Pat
Weber, a SSA member.
And every bit counts. The club is inviting all of its members to
participate and bring "unwanted items of a surfing and non-surfing
nature" to be auctioned off. And chances are that even if an item is
not sold, it'll be put to a good use. There are indications that the
Rancho Coastal Humane Society will be picking up any unwanted item,
although this has yet to be confirmed.
The event will be run on a purely volunteer base, so organizers are
asking club members to step forward and become involved. And at the
closing of the event, around noon, there will be a raffle, where
participants will be able to stake out a chance not only to give, but
also to receive one of the many available prizes. To put it in Weber's
words: "Here's a great chance to enjoy some club camaraderie, throw
down a surf, roast some weenies, and raise money for Swamis! “
