Under the (Australian) Sun
Tuesday, 01 July 2008

web_opening_800pxwide_2_2.jpg A sneak preview of Under the Sun, a feature-length surf documentary focusing on two influential Australian surf cultures, will be playing at La Paloma Theatre on July 3.

The film aims to document how the frenetic Gold Coast surf culture combined with the laid-back, hippy vibe of Byron Bay (only one hour south of the Gold Coast) to produce a revolution in the surf world as a whole. The most obvious effect was the creation of a multi-billion dollar surf industry, led by brands like Quiksilver and Billabong.

On top of the fascinating premise of the movie, a glance at the trailer indicates that the Super 16mm film will feature some stunning cinematography, both of surfing and of Australian scenery.

In short, this is a premier that is not to be missed.

Where: La Paloma Theatre in Encinitas

        When: 3 July 2008, 8pm
