Enthusiasts Gathering to Watch Stand Up Paddle TV

Legends Surf Shop will be hosting a viewing party for the first episode of Stand Up Paddle TV, the first of its kind in the world.

The event will begin with a free raffle of various prizes donated by different surf companies, followed by the viewing of the episode at 6:30pm on a 60-inch screen inside of the surf shop.

SAN DIEGO, CA – On Friday (November 20th) at 6pm, stand up paddle (sup) enthusiasts will be gathering at Legends Surf Shop in Carlsbad, CA to view the first installment of Stand Up Paddle TV, which is scheduled to air every third week of the month on iTV San Diego, channel 16 on Cable TV, starting this month. The event will begin with a free raffle of various prizes donated by different surf companies, followed by the viewing of the episode at 6:30pm on a 60-inch screen inside of the surf shop.

Stand Up Paddle TV, which is run by My Local Lineup, a San Diego-based surf media company, is a landmark step for the sport of stand up paddling, which has seen its share of controversy. A broad swath of surfers have complaint that stand up paddling gives an unfair advantage over the regular surfers, who don’t have the luxury of relying on a paddle for extra speed. By contrast, others point to the fact that many former SUP bashers are now turning to the sport, thrilled by its fitness appeal and the ability to go out even when the surf is flat.

But regardless of one’s position, stand up paddling has witnessed an explosive growth, with thousands of devotees being added each day. And now these SUP enthusiasts have a TV show entirely dedicated to the sport.

The show, which will air throughout all of San Diego County, reaching about 1 million homes, is making its debut in California’s most southern region at no accident. The county has relatively calm ocean conditions, plus lagoons, lakes and bays, making it the ultimate center for stand up paddling. And given the highly concentrated number of action sports enthusiasts, from surfing and skating to biking and snowboarding, the blossoming of stand up paddling comes at no surprise to the region.
