Ron Greene On the July/Aug Club Life

Greetings All,

rongreene071309.jpgPACIFIC BEACH, CA -- We’re very thankful to My Local Lineup for all their contribution to the Pacific Beach Surf Club and for making it possible for this newsletter to go out. The My Local Lineup crew – thanks to its advertisers and supporters – is assigning one of its crewmembers to help us with the club’s newsletter. So make sure to tell them how you appreciate their support and, if you’re a business, that’s a good place to invest, since (after all) it also ends up coming back to the club through all their support. And if you have any news, updates, or whatever else that you would like to share with the rest of the club, please don’t hesitate to email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and make your contribution to this newsletter and club activities.

Moving to a review of the month of June, we have tons of things to talk about. First and foremost, the 11th Annual Longboard Summer Classic, the contest organized by the Pacific Beach Surf Club, was a great success.

"First and foremost, the 11th Annual Longboard Summer Classic, the contest organized by the Pacific Beach Surf Club, was a great success."
I want to give many thanks to Jane Mold and Travis Long for putting together this great event, plus also many shout outs to our generous sponsors: Here they are: Bob’s Mission Surf Shop, Pacific Beach Surf Shop, Bare Back Grill, Star Surfing, Challenger Surfboards, Better Surf than Sorry, Java Jones, Surfer Baby, Boz Wetsuits, Taco Surf, Dennis Ogden Productions, Josh Hall Surfboards, Tassinari Physical Therapy, AAAA Auto Storage & Park and The French Gourmet. The beneficiary of the 11th Annual was the Surfers Healing, a foundation for autistic children. The weather and surf conditions were some of, if not, the best that the club has ever had for anyone of its events and is well documented in the My Local Lineup coverage. Make sure to check it out.

Also last month, we had the Malibu Boardrider’s “Call to the Wall” 2009 at the first point in Malibu. The club had a great turnout and a lively performance at both the overall contest and especially the paddle race. The club ended in 8th place in the overall event and 5th place in the team paddle race, with some standout performances such as “Yours Truly” ending fourth in the highly competitive grand-master division and Travis Long and Kate Anderson 3rd in the tandem shootout. Pier Moore also placed high in the finals, as well as George Popovich (drove in from deep in Baja to compete).

The competition started out under some pretty miserable conditions (hazy weather and miniscule surf) but by Sunday conditions improved (not so much the waves, but at least the sun came out and the Aloha heats allowed everyone to hit the water for a 15 minute session with only five other people, one of the perks of participating in the Call to the Wall.) Here again, My Local Lineup has done a superb job covering the action, so make sure to check out all the photos, video, and article on it.

Now looking forward, we have a series of events lining up, including the battery of Surfers Healing gatherings at Pacific Beach and the Oceanside Surf Club Contest, which will be held south of the O’side pier in the month of August. If you have questions about getting involved with the club and participating in the club’s activities, contact our President, Travis Long ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ), and ask him how to join.
