While testing and approving our stand up paddle design Fletcher Chouinard and our friends at Patagonia spanked a heck of a lot of waves. Thanks Fletch, the name stuck. The Spanker, is the first SUP (Stand Up Paddle) to combine light buoyant performance core with a powerful 12 degree bent design for maximum entry. Add Werner's legendary bomber durability for hours of worry free wave spanking!

  • Performance Core blades are buoyant, lightweight, and quiet
  • Mid-size tear drop shaped blades offer gentle power and a smooth easy stroke
  • 12º bend for efficient strokes
  • ABS Palm-style grip for a good fit and controlled strokes
  • Light weight with Werner's bomber durability

  • Surface Area - 106 sq in
  • Blade Length x Width - 19.5 x 9.25 cm
  • Weight for 78in
  • 2-piece Adjustable Length - 567g/20oz
  • Recommended Length - add 8 in for surf and 10 in for touring over height
  • Available Lengths: 2-piece Adjustable Length - 65"-85in

FOR:

I suggest this paddle for surf shops and families, but not those seeking a performance paddle. It's great for surf shops, for they can rent it to people of different heights without having to worry about cutting the shaft, since it's adjustable. And for families, if the purpose is to have a one-for-all paddle, then this is it, for it will likely be able to fit everyone's height. But for those seeking higher performance, the adjustable mechanism adds 4 oz to the weight, which cuts into your stroke rate.

COMPARED:

This paddle is probably one of the lightest weight paddles that there are, if not the lightest. That allows you to get more stokes in, hence more speed. I'm yet to see a paddle that does so great on stroke rate. Now compared to some other paddles I've tried, the palm-grip on this Werner paddle isn't as comfortable as others, at least for my skinny hands. The palm-grip fares very well on control, but not so well on comfort. But overall, it's one of the best adjustable SUP paddles out there, especially if you're looking for a mix of versatility and performance.
