Gov. Schwarzenegger has proposed to close 220 of the 279 state parks in California, with the intent of saving $70 million for the 09-10 fiscal year and $143 million for the 10-11 fiscal year. If passed, facilities will be shutdown and personnel laid off, adding 2,000 layoffs to the 5,000 already proposed. According to the proposal, sustainable parks will remain open, but those whose proceeds aren't enough to cover the operating expenses will be slashed.
