My first Blog Entry

Wow Andre was kind enough to give me my own Blog for My Local Lineup (What was he thinking?). I've never done this kind of thing before, so hopefully I won't screw this up and show you all, how much of a moron,  I really am.

I'll start with introducing myself to you all. As you figured out already, my name is Doug Aguillard. I'm a 45 year old native San Diegean, growing up in Chula Vista. Those were some great memories. I started hitting the waves at a young age. My father was a US Navy UDT/SEAL (now a retired Master Chief), and he taught me how to bodysurf and later skin diving. I grew up in the ocean with many of the Vietnam era SEALs, and they would take me to the Strand (Coronado) every chance I'd get. When the mid 70's hit, I fell in love with my Morey Boogie board. I already had the original Duckfeet from the UDT/SEALs, but when I saw the Duckfeet with Orange on them, I just had to get me some. I then started to grow up, and with that I started to surf. My first board was a 6'0 single fin G&S. I later saved enough money and bought a Mark Richards twin fin and broke it in half my first trip to Sunset Cliffs. I surfed mostly in Imperial Beach, and Coronado and as often as I could. If my friends and I were late were for school, and we had wet hair, there was hell to pay back then by the School's VP. There was no Surfing as a PE Class back then, like there is now. After school was out, it was back to the waves, and then home for some good food from Mom. Those were the days, no worries and just dreams of travelling the World when we got ouf of school.

Well, after High School, I did get to travel the World, but not as I had dreamed. I joined the United States Marine Corps, where the hair that I had was down to my shoulders and it disappeared within 3 seconds of going into Boot camp. Now I wish I had hair!.  The Marines were good to me, and I'll always be proud to be a Marine. I was a Presidential Support member for President Reagan, then it was off to the fleet where I went to war torn Beirut Lebanon twice and invaded Grenada, and did some other things in the 6 years that I was in. My job while I was in the Corps, was that of a Scout-Sniper.

After the Corps, I got back to surfing, and started working in the Action Sports industry. I worked as a sales rep in Skateboarding, Inline Skating, Roller and Ice Hockey for many years, selling to the different manafacturers and retail stores, but I ended up getting married, had kids and the surfing soon took a back seat to reality. I couldn't travel much anymore, so I quit the action sports and got into the world of Loss Prevention. Some 12 years later, my life took a drastic change, I had gotten divorced, became a single father, raising my two boys,  and  my Loss Prevention career of putting bad guys in jail, lasted for over 15 years, when I walked away from it and became a a professional photographer. This was my passion, something I had wanted to do since I was a young kid, so I became a Wildlife photographer shooting mostly birds and bugs to make a living. It was after shooting many of my surfing friends, that it was from their encouragement, that I started to shoot surfers and started Action Surf Photography (www.actionsurf.net).  I have never been happier. I work with the best people on a daily basis and my kids tell me that I am more relaxed nowadays. I've got an island girl for a fiancee, and life just couldn't get better. I always try and practice the Aloha spirit, and take care of my Ohana and friends.

Sorry for boring you-- if I did.....I will try to write better blogs as time goes on.

Aloha & Mahalo
