On Sunday, Jan. 11, a 20 year-old surfer was in the lineup with his 13 year-old cousin, when suddenly a 16 ft. great white bit her leg and dragged her under twice. Syb Mundy, the 20 year-old, "paddled over, punched the shark, put the girl onto his surfboard with him and paddled into shore," the reports said. With his help, the girl was able to survive the attack. Now although the incident took place off the southern island state of Tasmania in Australia, some local surfers were reminded by this indident of the effectiveness of the nose-puching strategy when responding to a shark attack. |
